Study Participants
Menopausal Status
The menopausal status of women included in this study is listed here.
Pre menopausal
Post meopausal
Participant selection: Inclusion and exclusion criteria
Criteria used to select participants in the study.
Parent study: Shanghai Breast Cancer Study. Rapid case ascertainment system with population-based Shanghai Tumor Registry, pathologist confirmed diagnosis. Controls were selected by Shanghai Resident Registry and frequency matched by age in 5-year intervals.
Exposures investigated
BMI/WHR, UGT1A1 allele frequencies, used PCR-RFLP
How exposure was measured
Biological Questionnaire, in-person
Ethnic groups with separate analysis
If this study provided a separate analysis by ethnic or racial group, the groups are listed here.
No
Confounders considered
Other breast cancer risk factors, such as family history, age at first birth, and hormone replacement therapy use, that were taken into account in the study.
Adequately controlled
Genetic characterization included
If the study analyzed relationships between environmental factors and inherited genetic variations, this field will be marked “Yes.” “No”, if not.
Yes
Description of major analysis
Logistic regression analysis of UGT1A1 genotype and breast cancer, including effect modification by BMI, WHR
Strength of associations reported
UGT1A1*28 homozygous compared to UGT1A1*1 homozygous showed an adjusted OR=1.2 (CI: 0.6-2.2)
For women <40 years old with at least one UGT1A1*28 allele showed an OR=1.7 (CI: 1.0-2.8)
ER/PR status did not significantly alter OR’s across whole group, or stratified by age
Stratified analyses showed that women with WHR <0.80 and UGT1A1*28 allele showed an age adjusted OR=1.8 (CI: 1.0-3.5) compared to UGT1A1*1 homozygotes
Stratified analyses showed that women with BMI <23 and UGT1A1*28 showed an age adjusted OR=1.8 (CI: 1.0-3.5) compared to UGT1A1*1 homozygotes
